Discover the library with an app

Using an app, pupils explore the reading rooms, the openly-accessible areas and other rooms and services of the University Main Library and get to know the swisscovery library catalogue.

Procedure:

  • Reception and instructions in the training room (2nd floor)
  • Tour in small groups with iPads
  • Duration: approx. 45 minutes
  • Individual
  • Prerequisite: an accompanying person must be present

This low-threshold offer is ideal for getting to know the library as a place.

UB Classic

Searching for information made easy

In addition to the tour with the app, pupils will be given a short presentation by the training team on searching for information and about the services provided by the university library.  The focus is on the swisscovery search portal which they will get to know in depth through practical exercises.

Procedure:

  • Reception in the training room (2nd floor)
  • Short presentation «On the trail of reliable sources»
  • Introduction to the swisscovery library catalogue
  • Mini escape quiz «Locked up in the UB»
  • Tour in small groups with iPads
  • Duration: approx. 90 minutes
  • Accompanied
  • Prerequisite: an accompanying person must be present, maximum of 24 pupils per session

UB Pro

Consolidation for advanced users

The new programme is aimed at classes that wish to delve deeper into a specific topic.

Options include

  • The historical collections of the University Library Basel
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Reference management with Zotero

Procedure:

  • Reception in the training room (2nd floor)
  • Input on the chosen topic
  • Duration: approx. 45 minutes
  • Accompanied
  • Prerequisite: an accompanying person must be present

This offer can be combined with the "UB Light" app tour or with the Introduction to the swisscovery library catalogue session.

Note on booking
  • UB Light and UB Classic must be booked at least 2 weeks in advance.
  • For UB Pro, registration is required at least one month in advance.
Self-guided tours

Please inform us in good time if you would like to guide your class through the library yourself, so that we can avoid overlaps.
