The University Religion Library (UBR) is a public branch library of the Public Library of the University of Basel (UB). Its collection is arranged in open access and is available for borrowing (with a few exceptions). Together with the collections of the UB, the UBR provides the University location in Basel with specialized literature and information on teaching and research in the fields of theology, science of religion, religion-economics-politics, and Jewish studies. Its offerings primarily focus on the most recent twenty years.
The UBR is the pickup library for orders from the library of the Jewish Community of Basel (IGB). These books can also be returned at the UBR or the UB.

Openly accessible area
You can get monographs and journals from the shelf or order them to the University Main Library for pick-up. The shelving follows the RVK classification scheme (German only) .
You will find an overview of the applied RVK numbers and their shelving here (in German).
Current journal issues can be found at the counter on the first floor. They cannot be borrowed.
Reference holdings
Books labelled "Use on-site” in the catalogue cannot be borrowed but may be consulted in the library for the day.
Copies / Ordering articles
For a fee, we will send copies of articles from journals or books to you (electronically or by post). Please order via email.
Cost: CHF 5.- per article / max. 20 pages
Delivery period: 24 hours

Library tours
Guided tours of the library and its collections, lasting 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the group size, can be arranged by phone or email with the library team (please provide phone number and email). Flyer introduction for the 1st Semester students and external users

From the SBB train station:
Take bus no. 30 from outside the station and get off at the “University” stop. From there it is a five-minute walk.
From Badischer Bahnhof (the German train station)
Take tram no. 6 to the “Marktplatz” stop. From there it is a 3-minute walk.
By car:
The access by car to Nadelberg is limited. Please read the information here in advance (link in German).
Delivery of goods:
The entrance to Nadelberg from the Peterskirche is accessible until 11:00.
